Caring for each other with home-massage therapy.
Camas Healing Arts series started yesterday!!! The first class was presented by yours truly. I talked about the benefits of massage therapy, and went over some common muscular issues, and some massage strategies to help alleviate headaches, shoulder & low back pain, fatigue & immune boosting tips. I had 15 attendees sprawled out on the floor with yoga mats & bolsters palpating muscles, overcoming ticklish feet, & learning to feel tension & problem areas for their partners. We were even fortunate enough to have two children attend to demonstrate the effectiveness of little feet on glutes & over-worked shoulder muscles.
Let's face it. As unfortunate as it is, we cannot always get in for a professional massage when we really need it. I love the history behind Thai massage, and how it has been passed down from parents to children for hundreds of years. They taught each other how to care for tired, sore muscles that had been used hard all day in the fields. They built their communities, their families, around touch-therapy; caring for the needs of one another. Not exclusive to healers & specialists, massage was part of the family unit.
